Dapper is a telemedicine company that provides a safe, effective, convenient, and affordable way for you to receive prescription skincare from a doctor or nurse practitioner--all without leaving the couch. If you're interested in prescription treatment options, it starts with an online visit. The online visit will ask you about your skin goals, your medical history, and other basic information. You'll also be asked to upload a photo of your ID to verify your identity. Once you have done all of this, a doctor or nurse practitioner will review everything, determine if you're a candidate for prescription skincare treatment through telemedicine, and craft a personalized treatment plan for you.

The ingredients in Nightly Defense skincare are effective at targeting a wide range of skin concerns. These include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Clogged pores
  • Dark spots
  • Discoloration
  • Skin firmness
  • Skin texture
  • Inflammation
  • Redness
  • Dryness
  • Dullness

During your online visit, you will be asked about your specific skin goals, including which concerns you'd most like to address. If prescribed, your bottle of Nightly Defense skincare will include ingredients that are selected based on the concerns and goals you've indicated.

If appropriate, a doctor or nurse practitioner will prescribe a skincare treatment with active ingredients to address your specific skin concerns. If prescribed, you will receive information on ingredients and how to use the treatment in your personalized treatment plan.

Nightly Defense skincare is made with a blend of ingredients that are hand-selected by a dermatologist and customized to fit your needs. Depending on your specific skin goals, the ingredients in Nightly Defense may include:

  • Tretinoin
  • Azelaic acid
  • Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP)
  • Niacinamide
  • Vitamin E acetate
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Tranexamic acid
  • Ceramides

There are no parabens, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), or formaldehyde in Nightly Defense skincare. If prescribed, you will receive a detailed treatment plan that describes which ingredients are included in your customized formulation.

The prescription skincare treatment recommended for you may be incorporated into your usual skincare regimen. If you are using other topical prescription medications, make sure to tell your doctor or nurse practitioner.

That being said, prescription skincare can make skin more sensitive, so we offer our own doctor-selected skincare products to complement your treatment: our gentle Antioxidant Face Cleanser and protective Weightless Face Moisturizer SPF 28.

The timing of the effects of your treatment will be dependent on many factors, including your specific skincare goals (e.g. reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, helping prevent wrinkles, reducing redness, etc.), how severe your symptoms are, how well you tolerate the treatment, and others. It is also important to understand that for certain treatments, your skin may get worse before it gets better. Depending on the treatment you are prescribed, you will receive detailed information on the formulation and what to expect.

Acne, in part, is caused by a bacteria called Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes). Because of this, topical or oral antibiotics are sometimes used for the treatment of acne. However, there is growing public health concern over the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are bacteria that have evolved in a way that makes them harder to treat with certain antibiotics. The over-prescription of antibiotics in society is partly what contributes to antibiotic resistance. Therefore, antibiotics should only be used when necessary.

Instead of topical antibiotics, one of the possible ingredients in Nightly Defense skincare is azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is not an antibiotic, but it does have antibacterial properties and is able to help stop the growth of acne-causing bacteria. This makes it a good treatment choice for acne Important Safety Information.

Many people have acne, but it can be a frustrating condition to live with. Clearing up the skin and reducing painful inflammation is a goal for many who suffer from acne. Luckily, there are many different treatments for acne, ranging from over-the-counter topical treatments like benzoyl peroxide, to prescription topical or oral antibiotics, to vitamin A compounds called retinoids.

Research shows that a combination of treatments--rather than any single treatment alone--may be more effective at addressing the different features of acne. That's why, if you are prescribed Nightly Defense for acne, your formulation will include two anti-acne powerhouses: tretinoin and azelaic acid. Tretinoin is a retinoid medication that increases the turnover of skin cells, opening pores and releasing bacteria and other irritants that may be trapped inside. And azelaic acid fights inflammation and reduces the growth of bacteria that contribute to acne.

Healthcare professionals on the Dapper platform do not prescribe skincare treatment to women who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

We recommend discussing your skincare concerns with your OB-GYN or primary care provider.

Topical tretinoin can cause dryness, scaling, and redness of the skin--especially in the first 1-2 weeks. To minimize the chances of experience these effects, there are a few things you can try:

  1. Let your doctor or nurse practitioner know if you have ever used tretinoin in the past and whether you experienced any side effects.
  2. Incorporate a gentle face cleanser and moisturizer into your skincare routine.
  3. Apply Nightly Defense skincare to the face in a very thin layer (only use a small pea-sized amount for the entire face).
  4. Apply Nightly Defense skincare every other day for the first 2-4 weeks.
  5. Try short contact therapy: Wash your face 30-60 minutes after applying Nightly Defense skincare for the first 2-4 weeks.

If you are still experiencing side effects, talk to your doctor or nurse practitioner about reducing the strength of your tretinoin formulation. You may need a different strength depending on the season and climate.

For more information on the side effects of tretinoin, see Important Safety Information.
